Hey y'all when I go to start the truck up today it cranked fir 5-7 seconds before it finally started up. Do I just need a fuel filter or Is it more serious?

It could be a number of things man, sometimes our trucks hesitate a little. It's happened to me twice before and it hasn't affected it ever since. It could be a clogged fuel filter or a code messing with your computer. Have you checked the OBD2 port for any codes?

No I haven't checked anything. When I bought it would crank like twice then start up but the more I start it up it seems to get longer to finallly start up. The check engine light came on the last time I did it. Took forever to start up. So should I take it to ford and have them test it for codes?

Take it to your local AAP, Autozone, etc and get the codes read for free. This will help to narrow things down considerably. Also went was the last time the MAF, TB, EGR and IAC were cleaned?

Ya man just take it one at a time and triple check everything because sometimes people pay money for something that's not broken. Start off small before going big. Starting by replacing the fuel filter is good and if that don't fix it I would problably check the chip in the key or maybe a possible short on the system somewhere. And sometimes it may just be the connections on your battery.

I understand. I just don't wanna burn out the starter by making it sit there and crank the engine till it starts. Maybe a timing issue too. Crank sensor may be goin bad, if that's the problem it'll thro a code when I check it tmrw right?

If it's the sensor ya it should throw a code and make sure you checked for stored codes to cause sometimes problems dont get fixed especially if the previous owner decided it was running fine and didn't mess with it

Could be a fuel pump, too. Low pressure would "starve" the engine. Change the filter first, and have the codes analyzed. Once started, does it struggle for idle? May be a vacuum leak as well. One ghost to chase at a time to narrow it down.
