New to ford
Hey everyone just had a few questions as I have never owned an f150 before. I picked up 98 f150 4.6 triton with 153k for 500. It didn't run so I put in a new starter got it running fixed a coolant leak and misfire... Now it seems to run pretty good. The box is toasted and the rockers on both side and driver floor into seat mount are rotting. I am curious if it's worth throwing some money into this truck but don't know how long they last. If it's not likely to last past 175-180k then I'll do it cheap but need some knowledge. Oh and it's the off road model if that matters and sat for about 1.5 so I expect lines needing replaced and so on. Thanks for the help in advance.

4.6 is the better motor by far. and sounds like a great deal. As long as the drive line works I would say yes its worth it. Mine had the same cab and box rot and I have replaced it with sheet metal and continue too as I go along. In my opinion, these generation of trucks with the 4.6 are the best all around for durability and ease of parts.
I would check a few problem spots such as,
Rear end leaking from pinion seal
U joints
Oil pan leak
heater core leak
oil pressure
gas tank straps
evap canister mount
upper/lower ball joints
pitman arm
After that and basic maintenance, they are easy to work on and parts are cheap. Post a pic of your new toy.

The only real difference in the 4.6 and 5.4 is the length of stroke. They even use the same heads and accessories.
