I got a remanufactured engine from 123engines in California through ebay and it was less than 2500 shipped to Oklahoma. They also have a website. Has a one year unlimited mileage warranty. They bore it and deck it a little and do a three angle valve job on the heads. Also put brand new pistons and oil pump and a bunch of other new stuff. I now have a 5.5 liter triton! I like it.

I got a price of around $3000 for a rebuilt 4.6 engine installed in my 98 4x4. Additional parts like belts, hoses, wires, were extra but overall, it seemed like a good price. The guys doing the job rebuilt engines for resale all over the country and also installed them locally so I am not sure you could match the deal locally.

If time is not a factor I would opt to rebuild mine just because I will know it was done right and give me bragging rights after it's done.
