Default Need some opinions on a new idea

Well so far I have gotten the front end of my truck looking the way I want it to. So now its time for the rear. My parents are yelling at me for spending so much money on my truck so it would have to be pretty cheap (I'm also trying to save for my trail grapplers). But What I am wanting to do is to make a sort of rack that will go on top of my tonneau cover (so pretty much a roof rack but over the bed). I have a few ideas but just wanted to hear from you guys and see if you had some input on how to make it. I would probably put my spare tire on it so I would need some new bed cover hinges or something to help open it. So let me hear some feedback

just curiosity what is the purpose of this rack other than holding your spare tire and looking cool/unique? one thing you could do to help everybody out is print out a pic of your truck or just a truck and sketch what your kinda thinking on it with a sharpie. then put the sketch up on here. that would help with coming up with ideas. also do you have easy access to a welder or will you contract the welding out?

Well you pretty much guessed it's purpose lol Idk I just though it would be something cool to see and different. I am waiting for my brother to get home he has some good photoshop skills so I was gonna see if he could draw something up. And as for the welding yes I have one right here in my garage and I do know how to use it lol

I'm close to you. I've got an old Thule/Performance bike rack in the rafters of my garage I'm never going to use again. It could be a starting point and I'd let it go cheap. You'd have to figure a way to mount it.

Thanks bro but this isn't set in stone yet. I'm still toying with the idea in my head and I was really wanting to make the basket myself. I'm going to school this fall for welding and was hoping I could make it as a project or something. Then I could get steel for free as for the mounting I am thinking of getting some expedition roof rack parts and using them since my cousin has one that he is getting rid of soon and its not worth anything. Thanks for the offer tho!! Where are you located

It's stupid. That's my opinion of it.

You already have a place for your spare tire. You already have a box to put stuff. They make a hitch rack if you need extra space. It doesn't sound like you have a ton of money to put into your truck, seems like a waste of money.

Wow, way to hurt my feelings lol.. Just kidding I like how you speak your mind. Its not that I don't have a ton of money for the truck but I mean what 18 year old has thousands of their own dollars to put into their trucks I just wouldn't spend like $300 and buy a already made basket. I was just trying to think of something different that not everyone else does.
