need more power
There's no reason you should't be doing burnouts unless you've got traction control on. If you need power, the easiest way is to do a 5.4 swap for about a 30 HP gain. Or you can do all the bolt ons and gain maybe 15 horse power. Or you can spend the money on a set fox lake PnP or trick flow heads and comp cams and see some pretty good power. No matter what you do you will want custom tunes from VMP or Troyer, with heads you will need them to run right. There are some other companies that do them too you can look around to see where you want to get them. I'm pretty sure I've decided I'm going with VMP. It kind of depends on how much money you're willing to spend. You could do a HD or lightning swap if you're that serious about needing power.
First lets start with proper maintenance. If the history is unknown, most likely it should be replaced. Plugs, COPs, fuel filter, O2 sensors, MAF and throttle body cleaning, and fluids.
Keep in mind with the mods, you're still driving a 5000 lb truck. You're not going to be able to stomp on the gas and fry the tires, maybe get them to squawk a little but not burn. Brake stands aren't recommended either. If you want a little more power and better shifting, there are some things you can do.
1. Start with the Gotts mod and a good dry synthetic air filter. Relatively cheap mod that has dyno proven gains and does everything a CAI can do.
2. A quality custom programmer. If you like SCT go with VMP, Troyer, PHP, or 5 star. If you like the Edge platform, go with the Gryphon from Power Hungry performance.
Then if you want a little more after that:
3. efans
4. headers/straight through exhaust
5. Underdrive pullies
6. motor swap

Yeah that's a good way to do it cause you can get stuff one at a time. My truck will fry the tires off if I want to but it's a 5 speed so it's a little different. I'm glad you know more about programmers than me cause I haven't got mine yet and now I've got some new companies to check out.
Step on take your overdrive off then hold break slightly and smash the throttle get em to smoke then let out break slowly and let em burn.. I have a 2002 4.6 that's right now running on 6-7 cylinders and Iv gone threw a set of tires in 2 weeks.. And I can leave 100 feet off the line easily from a dead stop.. But Iv also got a custom air intake a sct x3 programer and a custom exhaust due to hitting a pot hole it kinda fell off at the muffler so I ripped it off and now it's just the headers!!

I have no clue what trims came with what. My truck is the "off road" and I've got a 4.6 and conventional 3.55s, and my buddies 99 4.6 xlt has LS 3.73s. So I really don't know. "Off road" having an open rear in itself makes absolutely no sense.
