I'm probably opening a can of worms with this thread, but my truck is due for some new tires. I'm running Goodyear Wrangler's on it with the 16" stock XLT wheels right now, but I am interested in getting some Cooper Discoverer AT3's since I can get them at a discount. My truck is only 2WD but I want a bigger and more aggressive tire because I could use the extra traction up in the snowy mountains of central PA where I go to school. School is 200 miles from home, so I do a LOT of open highway driving as well.

I'm dead set on Cooper AT3's but I'm not sure which tire size is good for both highway driving and for traction in the snow storms. I rarely take the truck offroad so I don't need strictly offroad tires. I do want to get a larger tire than what is currently on the truck, keeping mileage in mind (not a huge concern for me but I make a 200 mile trip about 4 times a month so I don't want anything that will kill my mileage).

I was thinking 275/70R16's. Any advice on which tire size (larger than stock size) is best for what I need?

 

I can't complain, 4wd wasn't absolutely necessary w/AT3's to get going in the snow and slush anymore. I locked it in once I got going anyway. Before I had to lock it in just to root around in the drive way.

I went with the factory 265's. Plenty of tire for this truck. The traction is impressive.

 

Did you notice any change in your fuel mileage?

Apparently it's been a while since I've checked my current tires, I've got 245/75R16's on the truck right now. The 265/70R16's seem to be about the same size.
