Sorry for the delay on letting you all know the solution to my heating problem. I hope this may help others with heating problems. Thanks to all for your suggestions. As suspected, the blend door was broken in two pieces. The loose piece jammed the rest of the blend door causing the blend door motor to burn out. So both items where replaced for about $80 (local Ford dealer parts counter). Since this was the second time I have been in the heater core box in the last two years, the procedure was still familiar in my mind and I was able to dissassemble, replace parts, and reassemble within about 5 hours. NICE! Heat just in time for the cold air.
