Default My flowmaster is going bad.

Hello, I have a 02 f150 supercrew cab with a 5.4 Triton. It has a K&N air filter. I have a original 40 series flowmaster with single in and dual out. I don't have any cats on the truck. I didn't think the truck was loud enough so i took it in to the muffler shop and he told me i had four cats and if i took them out it would sound better. I took them out and it mad such a big difference. I love the original 40 but I can hear the baffles starting to go. I was wondering since i have no cats that with the single stock exhaust pipe going in will create enough back pressure and wont mess with the scavenging effect with the baffles completely gone or should I get a new one and put it in before they go? I couldn't find any information on the internet since everyone else had this problem and had cats. Can someone please help me.

I would get a new muffler, you won't have performance issues, as much as sounding like crap issues lol

I would buy another muffler but a muffler that actually flows, meaning not flowmaster. Sorry but I absolutely hate flowmaster, go with something like a magnaflow, borla, aeroturbine, etc, etc, something with a straight through design.

okay I will get a new one. I haven't heard the airoturbine or the borla. I've looked some of the magnaflow up online. I had glasspacks on my old ford with true dual before with no cats. It sounded okay wasn't real loud but it had a rubble to it. I like the sound of the flowmaster. I will get stainless tho so I wont have this problem again. I like the way the 40 series sounds. Its real loud and still has a good rumble to it. It turns heads when I go by or when i show off lol. Would the mangaflow or borla help with performance? Thank you for helping

It would with cats but I think without them a flow through may be a little too loud

Check out the flow master outlaw muffler. It's a straight through design

Was going to say they same, I have a 13 with a 5.0, cats and resonator are still
on, still sounds like a race truck if I get on it at all, when cruising, has nice rumble and no drone, can't even imagine how loud it would be without a resonator.....
My Flowmaster Outlaw is 3" in/out (race muffler).....
I wouldn't put down any brand, just cause "I" didn't like it!

My original 40 series is loud now. I have one of the loudest trucks in town. But i also pull a horse trailer to and i don't want to hurt the horses ears. It drones pretty good with over drive off. But turn on the music the drone goes away. i think the outlaw would be loud with out the cats.

I'm Sure you're right, you'll figure it out.
You tube is a good reference for what sounds like what, in stead of getting something you're not happy with.

If you like the way it sounds I would just put the same thing back. I have the same setup without cats and like it too.
