Muffler?
I looked it up on "I-Photo Help" and figured it out. Dragging the downsized versions off the desktop finally worked under "image insert" in this sites options. Still a PITA.

This looks like what it is, although 10 years old, the dimensions and configuration are basically the same, though this one is one step quieter I think. I think it's an original 40 series muffler and I am limited in what will fit in it's place so I think I'll go with the delta flow version in steel. The trucks 15 years old and I guess I really don't need stainless if this one lasts another 10 years: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/?p...&partno=942542, Doubt I'll have it that long. I'll be needing something newer in a few years........ Once I finish the engine swap.

Any truth to the car lore that a turbo muffler like Flowmasters restricts flow to a point that decreases Hp compared to its aftermarket competitors?
I have always bought Flowmasters but they drone like nobodies business when you run catless, what new mufflers does Flowmaster offer that stops that drone?
My F150 is making me consider borla or magnaflow.
I only asked because I've never seen a Flowmaster rep on a forum before.

When I first picked up this used truck used back in 05, I was getting 22 hwy and 16 city with this muffler. Sounds amazing, but it's true. I ran several tests verifying it. It stayed that way for several years until my valve stem seals went out and I had some short term starvation till I picked it up. Milage and power dropped after that to an average 17 hwy.
Well, the new 40 series #942542 Flowmaster Deltaflow on the way. It will fit exactly where the old one went. Jbrew was right, The preceding cats nullify any drone. My truck had none before this one failed and now it should be even quieter with the Deltaflow 40 series with no loss in output, originally had the original 40 series design (pics). The added baffles in the "Delta" make the diff. I had not noticed any really loud characteristics while driving, even in the woods. At idle or low acceleration it's plenty quiet enough with those 4 inline cats. $89.99 from Summit R. no tax/3 day free shipping.
I was just out the other day on my B-day hunting Grouse and checking out the fall colors and saw 7 Ruffed Grouse and 4 Woodcock right in-front of the truck a-while before the failure happened on the way out of the woods.

Flowmaster mufflers do not restrict the flow of exhaust gases. Rather, Flowmaster mufflers have been engineered to scavenge exhaust gases from your system resulting in a cleaner burn and increased engine efficiency. Drone is a topic that is often misunderstood. Drone may be the result of several factors. For instance, by deleting your cats and running an aggressive series of muffler, like a Flowmaster 40 Series, there is a greater chance that you will develop significant interior resonance. Flowmaster offers nearly 20 different series of mufflers as well as resonators and accessories in order to provide consumers with as many options as possible. I always recommend that people contact a manufacturer's representative when purchasing exhaust components in order to ensure that they choose the parts that most closely meet their performance needs and budget.
There was a huge thread over on TheCorral.net years ago that was chocked full of great infomation but I think it's long gone.
