Mpg shot or not?
Ok so I drive 60 miles 5 days a week for work and want to know what my expected mpg should be as you can see I use a 1/4 tanks for 60 miles.
Is this normal and if not what can I do about it?
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Btw I just bought this truck: 99 scab 117,000k

I average about 12-13mpg w/ 2003 4.6l 4x4. Stock. That's roughly what i get out of a quarter tank, but without running a full tank and refilling you won't really know what you're getting. Your gauge could be lazy.
60 miles isn't enough to develop a reasonable MPH nor is using the gas gauge as your other metric.
Put a full tank through her and do the math off the pump. You should average about 13 in mixed driving in the winter. 15 in the summer.

13 or 14 is about what you're going to get with a 5.4, though it's pretty easy to get it down to 11, depends on how hard you're on the gas and driving in town will really kill it.
as already said, let it get down to last 1/4 tank or so and fill it back up, turn on your phone and open the calculator app, punch in the miles from the trip odo, then divide by the number of gallons you just put in the tank.
example 300 miles/23.6 gallons = 12.711
it's the only way to know actual milage
by the way, if you're worried about it now, just wait till gas is $3.50 a gallon again.
it will happen
OH and why's the check engine light on?
