But if it is missing, I'm not sure how a fuel pump is going to cause a cylinder to miss.... the whole truck would run like crap on all cylinders.
maybe missing is the wrong word. When it accelerates it makes a noise almost like sucking or blowing air and it doesn’t have the power it should

Fairly important distinction...

Either way it isn’t right and being that my problem started after I run outa gas leads me to believe it’s fuel related. called autozone and they have a fuel pressure checker for 150 plus tax to rent. I read the specs on a running engine and one thats just switched on and not running but what about while turning higher revs?

Ok I got the fuel pressure checker and hooked it up to my Shrader valve on my fuel rail. Had to use the ford attachment. Problem is the gauge is reading zero but the truck is running. Bad tester?

Yea , take the gauge back. Maybe you better take it in, most realize when things are too far beyond them. Anyone who associates missing with blowing or sucking air......come on, your defeated man. Just take it in, hell, they don't listen to yuh anyway, but they'll try to get it running right regardless. It's how they get paid. Might want to suggest they drive it vs explaining things....just a suggestion.

thanks for the smart *** reply but I got it to work by just barely screwing the attachment into the valve and presto. 30 psi at idle and 40 while vacuum to regulator was unplugged. Gunna go for a test drive tomorrow with gauge hooked up and see if I get a drop in fuel pressure when I accelerate. On a side note I’ve NEVER taken any of my vehicles or bikes to a shop and I never will. May take me a few more hours than other people ( you oh wise one ) but I still get the job done. Thanks to the couple people who actually had helpful things to say but at this rate I’d rather blindly replace parts until I find my problem.

Also I never associated missing with blowing or sucking air. I simply said the issue I was having sounded like air sucking or blowing but I ruled out holes in the exhaust manifold so sorry I’m not a mechanic and can’t tell you exactly what a sound is. Is the purpose of these forums to help people who don’t know as much as others make repairs on their own vehicles or to make the people who do know a lil more than others feel better about their boring meaningless rat race of a life? Rant over, I’m gunna get stoned and imagine a world without idiots like me that don’t drop out of the womb knowing how to replace a rear main seal. Goodnight ladies and gents

It was an honest one answer.

All the same , good luck with it.

I have a 2000 with the 5.4 that did the same thing . Ran great until it was put under a load such as acceleration or pulling a hill. I thought it was my transmission at first, then I took it to an Advanced Auto Parts and had them put it on their tester and found that it was just a bad coil pack. $57 fixed it. It's done the same thing twice more with the same outcome, just different coil pack.

5fours don't use coil packs, they incorporate COP ignition systems. Coil packs were used on the older 4.6L engines. Your coil problems will never end if your using advanced ap's coils. Just so your aware and most of all learning.
