Smile miss?

My 97 F150 has devolped a miss that only occurs maybe once or twice a week. I have no check engine light, and it only does this for a moment then it runs fine. Today when I left work I had to hold my foot on the brake and gas just to keep it running while I tried to pull out. Once I started down the road it was fine. Like I said it only does this now and then. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe a coil pack trying to go bad.

Smile possible related issue

Thanks, for the replies. I was really leaning towards a coil, but I noticed something today that may be related. My truck has always made a noise when you shut it off under the hood. It sounds like a valve opening or closing under vacuum. I always assumed this was the EGR valve or something. Since this miss devolped I also noticed today that that noise is gone. No matter how many times I start and stop the truck the noise under the hood isn't there. Any ideas what the noise would have been or if the lack of could be causing the miss? I'm planning on trying to figure this out over the weekend, just thought this may be a hint as to what the problem is.
