I wouldn't go over 2 or 3 with that type of oil. I used to work at a Take 5 oil change and I fell the best to run for your money would be mobil 1 synthetic with an extended performance filter. About a 70 dollar oil change but you can go 6-8 before you really need to Change it. This is with regular driving. That's what I run and I change mine every 6 just to be safe

I assume you have over 75,000 miles on your truck being that it's a 2000. I would say mobil high milage or a mobil synthetic. Both with a mobil extended performance filter. I run the synthetic with the EP filter and I change mine every 6-8.

Not saying your instructor is wrong, but if there was a longevity/durability question with Royal Purple, I'd call up and talk to R.P.'s tech support... Don't forget they are in the "oil selling business" so if they felt you should change the oil more frequently, I'm sure they'd tell you (that would = more oil sales for them).

If you can't run a synthetic oil for more than 5k miles, then whats the point... Like I said, I'd get the info "strait from the horses mouth" rather than rely on here-say. R.P. is a quality synthetic oil manufacturer, and they do make a wide variety of oils for different applications from "street" to full-blown racing applications... I have no allegiance to R.P., or any oil mfg., but I hate hearing "oh this person said..." sorta stuff, sorry just my .02...

Yay that's a good point. Best to get some factual research before anybody makes a decision on anything. Doesn't hurt to no for sure. I'm just expressing my opinions

I have personally been running castrol full synthetic in all my rigs plus a mobile 1 oil filter and they seem to go beyond 10,000 miles before the oil started to break down and turn dark brown, but for some reason now in my Jetta its not the case it is bad after 6000 miles...I put some mobile 1 in my E-150 with a K&N oil filter (of which I am not impressed and will be switching to a mobile 1) and it has gone 7000 miles and the oil is just starting to turn brown. Now the difference between me and most everyone else is that I rack up over 6000 miles a month on my jetta and on my cargo van, of which are 95% highway miles... so typically I don't have to change as often as someone that drives 20-30 miles a day tops... just what works for me through trial and error.... take it or leave it

Well said my friend! I just talked to my best friend who is an ase certified mechanic and he said the same. He told me I could go 5-8k on changes but the oil filter is your downfall. I will stick with rp. He also said that I bought the best oil available. I trust my mechanic!!
