Default Major problem.!!

i have a 98 f150 with a 4.6L. My issue is that the truck starts but when it is put in drive or reverse it stalls out. Have switched out a lot of the throttle area. Body, idle valve, Hoses. Checked vacuum leaks and nothing seems to fix the problem. I was told by a friend of mine who thinks it could be the torque converter. But I’m not sure. I just want to get this truck fixed ASAP.

Thanks.!

@03f15012 at the risk of crying Wolf can you please just make sure it’s not skylar reincarnate. It sounds eerily similar, is at the end of his 4day ban and is reminiscent of his full name (Jacob Ingram) user profile.
If I’m wrong I promise not to cry wolf without more Damming evidence but I might’ve turned into a grumpy old man with get off my lawn syndrome because of him lol... I think a couple of us might have

Is this a new problem on a truck that's been running well? Or did you just get the truck and it's never worked right? Is this with the engine fully warmed up or cold? If you hold the idle speed up will it go in to gear and keep running, and drive? Does the engine just die immediately or does it chug and slowly die?

Dug into it, see what I could find. I can't find any matches, and the IP addresses are different enough for me not to be suspicious.

...For now. I'll keep an eye on things and see if any similarities show. For now, I'm gonna call it clear.

So is it as soon as the gear selector goes into D or R or does it happen once you give it gas? also immediately stalls or like you can drive about 10ft then it stalls? Does it start right back up without issue?

The Gen 10's especially, like to stall when low on fluid...a quart plus down. More so in Reverse. Running low in D can also compromise OD eventually. Slow or pro-longed shifts into OD is a good tell....you better check the fluid.

Best to check cold and again at operation temp (after 10 or 15 miles of driving)...good way to verify accuracy. Checking it at operating temp, -once stationary, go through the gears foot on the brake, pausing a few seconds between. Down to 1, then back to park. Check it KOER.

yes happens as soon as I put in D or R and yes does start right back up after. With no issues.

new problem on a well running truck. Warmed up and cold. Yes if I gas it a little it will stay in gear really rough though. And will not drive. Dies instantly.
