I'm having a hard time following... you say you want to get the MAF reprogrammed, but later say you don't want to mess with it? I have no idea why you'd want to reprogram your MAF.... are you running boost? BTW, your truck came with a CAI from the factory.

Uh yeah, you're in over your head. Something has to help the ECU calculate how much fuel and spark advance are needed. Whether it's a speed density (uses manifold vacuum - which would be a PITA to convert to) or a MAF, it needs something. As far as flow, you can do better, but most "CAI" kits put an open air filter under the hood - at which point it becomes a hot air induction. Look at the pipe that the user Jbrew used. That is much better flowing, and he still is pulling the colder air from the fender well.

You can't run without the MAF And yes the stock air box is the best CIA for these trucks. Look up gots mod

I am not familiar with the 4.2, so I didn't know if the Gotts Mod was doable on them. My air filter housing says "V8 only" or "4.6 and 5.4" on it, so I figured it may be different.

Nice mention kd4!

How the hell do you think your engine is going to run without a maf? Why the hell would you want to do that? From what your saying I think it would be a good idea to leave your truck with the mechanics

Fuel injection, like our Ford's, requires constant/continuous Air Flow monitoring, which is what the MAF does. Without it, even if you could trick the computer, you'd have a constant RICH run condition or too lean and bun up a piston or two.

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to accomplish. You sound like you have a carburetor idea set up in your mind, but that doesn't work with FI. Deleting sensors isn't the correct way to improve these engines. A tuner (some are quite expensive) will do more than what you can accomplish, trying to go with what you are seeming to attempt. But a tuner will only give you XX amount of help. There is only so much you can improve a stock block.

A tuner won't do much at all for the 4two. Well if you have the auto trans you could change the shift points. Although a shift kit would be cheaper.
