3 weeks ago when kd started this, in this area anyway, daytime temperatures where still hitting the 80's and nighttime temperatures were in the 50's. Now daytime temperatures are in the 50's and nighttime temperature is below freezing most nights. This means the air density is much higher now than what it was just 3 weeks ago, if his temperature changes are anything like here. This effects MAF operation if the MAF is still set to the BARO PID kd was experiencing 3 weeks ago. This graph shows what happens to an airplane and the altimeter calibration needed to adjust for flying at the right altitude. 30 degrees C equals 86 degrees F.
This is also an example of the effect altitude has on anyone challenging Pikes Peak to maintain the properly calibrated AFR. This graph though is a mathematical representation only. Actual flying conditions are not represented here because the effect of gravity on density at altitude isn't taken in to account in the graph.
I know, it may be odd but this does effect an improperly calibrated MAF.
When I first started having problems, I cleaned the MAF with CRC MAF cleaner It did not look dirty as it was bright shiny silver but I sprayed it down any way. The P1152 That was pending has gone away on it's own. And I only wish the temp would around here. Low 90's day and mid 80" at night.
It is of my own "professional" opinion that the spray MAF cleaners do not work very well. My Buddy was working on a late 90's Explorer (4R70W).... he put a trans in it, and it still shifted like dog **** and would stumble. I told him to clean the MAF, which he did with a spray cleaner. It still shifted like dog **** and would stumble when you gave it gas. I went over there with acetone and a Q-Tip (not the Dollar Store variety where the cotton is loose) and cleaned the wires. It pulled a black film off of them, and it ran like a champ after.
To this day, I have no idea if that thing really needed a trans..... I should ask him.
They work OK... I usually still wipe up after those cleaners though. I've had some stuff that was made by Bowman that would actually melt plastic. It was pretty potent.
