Default LED Replacements

Hello guys...

I'm looking to replace the bulbs that are in the stock running boards running down both sides of the truck. 1 bulb is out, so figured now is a good time to swap all 4 with a brighter, whiter, bulb. LED seems to be the best solution for what I'm looking for.

Have any of you guys done this yet? The bulb I pulled is a 168. Looking at numerous LED replacement bulb web sites made this task a bit more tough because the bulbs are ranging from $4 to $17.

What is the difference between all of the different 168 bulbs, and are there particular bulbs to stay away from?

Any help is much appreciated!

thanks guys....

I have just got done doing this to my rig. I love it, it looks so much better with the white light rather than the yellowed stock light. I ordered mine thou:

Thanks for the quick reply, I take it you purchased the WLED Minature wedge based bulbs? (first ones when you click the link?)

and did you choose 1 LED, 4 LED, 5 LED or 6 LED model? more LED's I assume the brighter, right?

will it hurt to go to bright and possibly burn the lenses?

I got the 6 natural white bulbs. Yes, more LEDS the brighter, also more viewing angle of light. The best thing about LEDs is that they don't get hot. So NO lens burning at all. Maybe burn your eye bulbs But not your lens. If you shoot me a PM with your email address, I can send short video clips of the new lights if you want to see. Up to you.

I got cool white from super bright LEDs, replaced everything from the dome, doors and license plate lighting. Looks much better IMO.
Edit: not sure if these were the LEDs you were referring too

Wrench78 - thanks for posting those! HUGE difference, I'm going to duplicate the 6LED white option.

Also, I was thinking about doing the interior bulbs but never thought about doing the 3rd brake light or cargo lights on both sides of it. *NEW IDEA*

Thanks bud!

No prob. glad I can help out. I think it was well worth the money. The only one that I would be on the fence about is the red LED for the brake light, not sure if it made much of a difference. But, it still looks good.

Yea I got to thinking, I will probably just go with all the "white" light replacements. tag light, interior lights, step bars, reverse lights, maybe even check to see if the have LED replacement bulbs for the stock fog lights.

I'm not big in changing lighting designs, so I will not try to swap for a HID set or anything from stock. So to try and help the poor stock lighting via the headlights, I plan to just do Silverstars......unless you've swapped your's with something and are happy with the upgrade?
