Leaking 2001 Sliding Sear Window
Been looking through the threads for info on fixing leaking rear window, and read that the outside plastic trim can be removed by removing about 6 small nuts from around inside cab, behind trim panels. Actually - at least in my case - the window frame (with glass) sits on the rim of the trim and had to be removed first. Cannot remove the plastic trim without removing window. I removed all nuts and pulled window and trim out, removed all old adhesive from all surfaces, cleaned all surfaces with alcohol and threw away deteriorated rubber gasket (what a joke). Laid a bead of black sealant / adhesive around all holes in cab that the trim bolts go through, then mounted trim. Applied 1/4" bead of sealant / adhesive in channel on window frame and mounted it back in the cab, then re-assembled interior. A little time consuming and the only real pain in the butt was working around partially removed head liner...didn't feel like screwing up head liner around sun roof.
If this doesn't fix my leak, I'll run a bead of black sealant between plastic trim and cab itself. Wish me luck.
Sorry this post is sooooo long.

I'm having the same problem with my 2001 F150. I bought it a few months ago and I noticed the other day it had some rain coming in, so I picked up a tube of black silicone, but I haven't done anything to it yet.

I prefer to disassemble everything and seal it all back up as if it was done by the factory, but if you do decide to just caulk the gap between plastic trim and cab, try some blue painter's tape on either side of the gap so when you smooth out the caulk (using a GLOVED wet finger*) you'll be able to peel off the tape to leave a sharp, clean edge on your joint, not a smudgy line.
*That 3M black sealant / adhesive doesn't like to come off your fingers.

This is a common problem with these trucks. It will leak right behind the drivers seat side. When they assembled these trucks, they use a 3 gasket set up and its pulled tight with the bolts around the window. I found this out because I just had mine fixxed. Anyway, those 3 seperate gaskets that they slapped in there will eventually seperate and start the leaking. The new ones are a one piece and will not leak. I took mine to Safelite and for about a hundred bucks, they took it completely out, scraped off all of the old seals and gaskets, and re-enstalled it. Thats the only way to fix it. You can try to put caulk around the window but that will only be a temperary fix. Plus those guys do it all day and everyday. If they break the window, they'll have to replace it. And its under warranty. If you break it, its out of your pocket!

Heavy rain at home today. Didn't drive my truck so I checked it when I got back from work... SHE'S DRY!!!! Not a drop of water on rear seats or on carpet behind seats! Woo-Hoo!
Best $10 I've spent in a long time.
