Default larger air tube.

does anybody know witch model truck has the slightly larger filter box tubing.my 97 has the smaller one and I was going to go to the junk yard and get the larger one if I knew the year.

Yes, 99+ should have one. I got mine off of a 99 5.4 Expy.

Ok so I'm looking for a 99 up f150 or a exploer with the 5.4 is that correct ?

ok gotcha 99 up expedition with the 5.4. would you happen to know the cut off year ?

When the Expedition changed from model year '02 to '03, did it go to the 3-valve motor, or did that not happen until later? (I don't know if the later 5.4 3-valve motors used the same intake assembly?)

you are correct on the expedition and the intake did change. I have seen no solid evidence or even a confirmation that any power is made by removing the silencer.
