Question KeyLess(Keyfob) entry options

Where would I check to see, if my truck has the keyless entry option?

Best way to check:

get in the truck, close all the doors, and make sure all the doors are unlocked. Stick the key in the ignition and cycle the key 8 times, ending in the on position. Do NOT start the truck at all during this. If on the 8th time the locks cycle, you DO have keyless.

Thanks, I have the same question since my truck came with only one key and no keyfobs. I will be checking this out first thing in the morning. I assume you can find used keyfobs and reprogram them. I'd love to get mine working again if I can.

Absolutely. As long as its the 3 button remote, even remotes used on later generations will work.

4 button also can work. I have a 4 button programmed for mine. Idk if they're more limited though.

OK, I ordered some keyfobs and received them and now trying to program them and having some problems. My truck has the auto lock feature engaged....so when I shift into drive the doors lock. I don't know if this affects the programmability or not.

When I go through the programming cycle 8x off/on, each time I go off/on the locks sound like they go through a cycle but the buttons don't actually go up and down. Is this normal? The locks never enter the programming mode....ie: after 8x cycling.

Anybody have any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.....oh yeah....2001 XLT Supercrew, 5.4L, 4x4

Auto feature doesn't affect your key-less entry. It can be engaged or dis-engaged and the keyfobs should still work. Check the batteries in the keyfobs.

There is more info on that topic here. page 4-6

As for programming keyfobs. Once you cycle the ignition 8x's and get the door lock confirmation, simply hit any key on the keyfob and you are done. If that doesnt work, it is your keyfobs or battery.

That's just it, I don't get the door lock confirmation.
I deactivated the auto-lock feature successfully and tried to program the keyfob again with the same result. They are factory style keyfobs with battery included. I will try a replacement battery and see what happens.

The thing that still I wonder about is the cycling sound I get every time I turn on/off cycle with the key. Is that normal?

Try to re-engaged the auto-lock feature, then do the cycling. I wouldnt think this has anything to do with the programming, but its an option.
