The 03 FX4 Lariats came with them from the factory! There has been a few people swap them and it's ALOT of work!

I went by a local shop to buy the wire harness and kit. The guy said he would install it if I wanted for $40. Told him it requires some trimming and he said yeah sometimes but he would take care of it. So I went ahead and let him do the install. I'm not happy with it at all. It sticks out way past the dash. There are gaps on both sides of the radio. The a/c controls are a little off. I do not think he used the kit and he charged me for it. Also don't think he did any trimming and thats why it sticks out so much. What do you guys think? I'm calling him back today to complain.

Shouldn't stick out at all and there shouldn't be a gap. Honestly, I didn't even use a kit. Just the harness. Go back and make him get it right.

He probably didn't cut out the big piece behind it. There's a piece of plastic that tapers off behind the radio that needs to be cut. Some stereos aren't wide enough and do require a kit for the sides, mine did. So he should definitely be fixing it or giving you back the $40 so you can

I have no idea what he did. It feels like it's secure in there but just looks like crap. The part of the dash that he removed and reinstalled isn't even flush on one spot under the a/c controls.

I installed a single DIN radio and a slightly wider than DIN scanner taking up the equivalent to double DIN space. I used a faceplate that I had to trim for the scanner, but it fit the radio.

I had to remove all this. The OEM radio is notched at the top. If your double DIN isn't really short or notched, you will have to cut a bunch of stuff out too. That's probably why your radio sticks out.
