I am currently looking for advice on the same issue. My 97 F150 has extremely rusted steel wheels. I found a set of polished aluminum wheels from a newer truck at a local garage while being nosy. The bolt pattern is correct but only to find they were from a 14mm stud truck. Mine is a 12mm with the flat flange lug nuts. Would a 12mm acorn nut work to center the wheel or am I stuck with wheels I can't use?

Stud size appears to not be an issue at all.
The center hole at the hub is tight and centers the wheel without any runout. Stock lugnuts remain tight and all is good.

Im in the same boat. I ordered my wheels and lugs from discount tire direct. My truck is a 2000 5.4 4x4 so I assumed discounts website was right saying I needed 14mm lugs and I read that after 99 all 5.4s had 14mm lugs. Well thats not true at all, considering mine has 12mm lugs. So now after they forgot to ship the lugs with the wheels the first time and had to overnite them to me, Im now waiting one more day to get the right lugs.

To clarify for future reference for every body. If you truck is equipped with drum brakes you 12x1.75 lugnuts. If you have disc brakes in the rear you have 14x2.0

Not true, mine has 4 wheel disc and still has 12mm. I think it may have to do with the plant the truck was build at as to what lugs are used but I really dont know.
