That's the noticable part. The chip guard is very thick. I don't know enough to figure out how to build it up, and get the texture back.
If you look close, you can see where I fixed it, but isn't noticable if you aren't looking close.
My main goal was to get some fresh steel welded in more than anything. Touching up the body work can wait.

You can see in the one picture where I ground it down to bare metal in the fall and sprayed it just to hold me off till spring when I could fix it right. There weren't any holes then, they popped up over winter from the inside.

Sometimes I think it's a losing battle with these trucks. It a shame that I bought a small 110v Mig welder basically just for this truck.
If the rest of it wasn't in such good condition, I wouldn't care, i'd just run it till it completely rusts apart.

Last year it was the rocker panels, this year it's the doors.

How easy was the roll on bed liner to work with? I'm doing the same thing for my truck but I'm wondering how easy it was to remove the tape to keep a good line?

Hey Everyone!!!

Thanks for all the great tips and ideas. I'm thinking we are gonna go ahead and grind off the rust and do the bedliner deal. I really like the look of it :-) Hopefully in the near future we will have time to do it and once we do I'll post some pix :-)

Thanks again!!!

They make spray on bed liner from duplicolor. I use it for undercoating.

If you are getting rust on the bottom of your door panels, it might be a good idea to change your window rubber seals when you repaint, also check drain holes if there are any, to see if they are clogged.

I have the door issues to just a terrible design issue where everything is flung up at the door from the tires and sits inside the crack between the body and the door. Salt especially in MN. I need a whole new door pretty much. Sucks
