Default IAC Replacement

Hi All,

2002 Screw 5.4 151k mi. My IAC was making humming noise, so I went to Pep boys and got a BWD brand IAC. Replaced and start the vehicle, idle was fluctuating rough and died out. This is brand new IAC with gasket and old one did not have this issue but humming noise. So I replaced it back to the old one and idle is fine but humming noise.
Is this because I did not use the OEM IAC? What would cause this?

Thanks.

Borg Warner electronics suck. I'd take it back. Try cleaning your old IAC with carb cleaner, and getting it as clean as possible. If that doesn't cure your noise, get a new Motorcraft IAC.

I tried Borg Warner O2 sensors once. The truck ran fine but well down on mileage. Went from 14/15 to 8 miles per gallon lol. Went with Bosch OEM and got my mileage back. Strange, you wouldn't know it by the way it was running. No rich DTC's, just sucked the fuel like crazy w/BW sensors.

Shouldn't have a humming noise unless you bypassed the IAC horn. They get noisy if you drop or delete the horn.

Thanks. How about the Standard Motor Products AC253? Who makes Motorcraft IACs?

I heard that Hitachi made them for Ford a while back on a Ranger page. Not sure just how true that is though - never verified that. Maybe Brewster knows for sure. I've never seen a Hitachi branded IAC either.

Standard is usually the cheap end of the spectrum.

I had a idle issue on my 2004 f-250 5.4 (kept stalling). 2yrs ago
I replaced it with Airtex/wells 4J1057-(TV242) $37 rockauto.com
fixed the issue and no problems...

I would just purchase a Motorcraft valve. I've done it before. Might have to hunt one down for a good price. Rock doesn't sell them ?
