Default I know, i know!

It's been beat to death on these forums ( tuner talk) and I did do some searching and found lots of helpful info and it seems the general vote as far as simplicity and cost efficiency is the edge evo (since I want more of a plug and play option) however I've notice that most are doing way more mods than I will be doing so my question is do you guys feel like it would be worth the money for the investment in my case? Mods are just gotts with the sound resonator removed, super 44 si/so and 33"s coming soon, prob not too much more as far as performance mods in the future. Occasional towing and offroad use. I suppose mpg is always a plus. Like 2mpg? Maybe 10hp? Suggestions thanks!!

Your mods don't require custom tuning but a custom tune will far out perform a canned tune. Look for about 20hp and 0-2 mpg gain. A custom 87 tow and performance tune sound about perfect for you. Look at the Gryphon if you like the display, if not go with an SCT Xcal 3.

Just get the Edge and use the canned tune. It will wake up your truck enough to satisfy your needs.. Gotts mod and exhaust and tuner, your good to go.

If you ever want to do any other mods, try efans and underdrive pulleys.. that will free a little bit of HP plus MPG gain.

Custom tunes are great, but with just those 2 mods, I wouldn't worry about it to much. I have the Gryphon and custom tunes.. it was a good choice but.. I would of still been satisfied with the canned tunes from an Edge..

And to be honest, I haven't checked PHP's site lately, but I don't think they do custom tuning on the Gryphon for 97-03 anymore.. unless they started again.

I wouldnt say your gonna get anything over 15HP, and thats being generous. The main thing you will notice from a tune is the better throttle response. Tuning wise, the F150 is very similar to the Mustang, and a full bolt on 2v will be LUCKY if it picks up anything over 10HP to the wheels after a tune. The main thing is getting the factory fuel setting re-arranged because they are pig rich when WOT.

They do custom tuning for the 97-03 with the new CS/CTS

It is about 20hp at the flywheel for both the Xcal and the Gryphon. Any way you go, make sure you know how to use the device and avoid some of the things that some run in to trouble on.

The only difference between say an Edge and a Gryphon is one email, so it's not as difficult as it seems, but there's nothing wrong with canned tunes. Here's what Edge claims the gains are:
