Default How to replace headlight assy

I want to replace both headlight assy. on my 2001 F-150. The engine size is a 5.4 V8. I need a step by step instruction on how this is done....I'm an old geezer that just wants to save a few bucks by doing this myself.

I assume you mean the entire assembly and not just your bulbs correct?

Do just as you would to replace the bulbs ( in your manual-pull up the black metal tabs to release the assembly and wiggle/giggle the headlight out) Swap in your new piece and get your headlights aligned, viola, your done!

if they are faded do this: 1: wet sand them with 400 grit 2: wet sand them with 1000 grit. 3: let it dry, you can take a air hose and blow to speed this up. 4: tape up around the light and paper around the front of the truck(this will take the longest) 5: Dupont makes a high gloss in a spray can(got mine @ Napa). Be very careful on the first couple of coats to only spray very light and let it dry for 10 to 15 min. in between coats.I put 5 or so light coats on mine until I was happy with it.

I promise this will work. My lights look like new and have showed some people just because I could not believe it myself and they say even up close u cant even tell. And my lights are alot brighter at night.

Hey Mr Appletree,

Are you replacing them with OEM or an aftermarket? If aftermarket which brand did you buy and why? I am in the process of redoing my lights as well as they are poor to say the least.

@redf: find some lightening style headlights. They look the best IMO and are reflector style instead of open bulb. I replaced mine a while ago and will never look back.

Daughtry- do you polish after the 1000grit wetsand? or just spray the clear? I've always polished before clearing, the clear just seals the plastic back up after sanding off the top layer.

I have since looked on line for the lightening style. I agree they are much better looking. The projector style does not do it for me. Thanks for the suggestion.
