97 F-150 XLT 4.6L 4x4 90,000 miles. Replaced alternator, plugs, wires, intake manifold gaskets, inner and outer tie rod ends, and front wheel bearings. Needs rotors, pads, driver side exhaust manifold and cluster bulbs.

Q Tip 10-24-2008 09:47 PM

Just bought an '03 tonight it has 26,178.3 miles on it. Very happy to get out of my '95 Dakota 4x4. It was a great truck w/ 217,000 miles on it but blew a head gasket last weekend, 4x4 was out, needed tires, used gobs of oil, etc. etc.

I love my F150. It's a regular cab flareside sport 4x4 with the 4.6 V8.

i get 320 miles to a full tank (22 gallons) in city thats about 14.5 mpg, and highway i get 410 miles to a tank thats about 18.5 mpg.
i only play with boost if i'm towing my trailer or puting a dodge or chevy in their place!

adamw14 11-24-2008 10:27 AM

on my 97 lariat / 4x4 /5.4l has 162k. Living in the high alt i burn 85 octane fuel. My 5.4 has a lot less power at 5,500 msl. But the milage on the intersate is around 15. I know ford doesn't approve fuel less than 87, but i have had no problems. Any thoughts from the Ford crew?

Hey everyone.. Newb here. I just crossed the 215K threshhold on my 2000.

N3UP 02-26-2009 10:05 PM

I got my 97 in October with 78,000 on it. Extremely clean and I think I stole it for $4K.

My 91 has 253,000 on it and is still going but beginning to show some signs....
Doesn't use any oil, but it has a lifter that leaks down and starts tapping if I flog it too hard. I bought it with 113,000 on it, and the only engine work besides tune ups were 2 water pumps, 1 alternator, a starter, TPS sensor, and EGR sensor.

I had the trans rebuilt after the transfer case broke, but that was not long after I got it, over 100k ago.

The rust on the 91, now that's another story....although that only got bad a couple of years ago....on an 18 year old truck.
That, and deer keep comitting suicide on it.

Elone 02-26-2009 10:30 PM

I have a '98 supercab 4x4 w/ a 4.6L & 4sp w/ od. It has 104k. I'll be using it mostly for getting firewood and compost (hauling a dump trailer) and pulling my Allmand loader/hoe.
Overall the truck seems to be in very good shape. It came from the Syracuse, NY area so there is a lot of rust underneath, I'll be sandblasting and painting the frame this summer to keep it under control. Looks like the springs and shocks will have to be replaced.
It is taking over for an '03 Dakota 4x4 w/ 3.9L & 5sp. The Allmand was a bit much for it.

What's a regular maintenance schedule like? I just got 2002 SCAB FX4 with shell, 128000 on it and looks like nobody has opened the hood yet. It's damn lazy and something is kicking back in the wheel. Didn't get any manuals and just one pair of keys. Little dissapointed after getting rid off my tired 96 Aerostar which was strong and sharp at it's 215000miles. Any suggestions guys? Where to start? Probably a bit work ahead of me. But I've always wanted one. It's my first truck and I'm sure I'll love it.

Most the problems are with the 97s, exhaust issues, ect.. Some the exhuast manifold cracks. On every one the transmission seems to go around 200k. First it starts to whine, slip, then gone in a few thousand miles. The unit with the most miles on it was a 97 with about 289k on it.
