First off, I would try to move to a nicer neighborhood. I agree with the guy who said that the age of your truck makes it less likely to be stolen. However, during an experience when my daughters car was stolen, the thieves use the car for other criminal activity so any vehicle could end up being a target. They immediately changes out the license plate so I don't think a personal plate will help you much. They will also remove anything from the car that identifies it as yours like the dealer sticker, parking stickers, special decals, and unique license plate frames. The police told me that the crooks have a big inventory of keys so they just try keys in vehicles until they find one that work. Unless you have a really expensive car and they target that car, they will not make a special key just for you. Regarding the VIN, make sure the police can find it so if it gets recovered they can contact you to pick up your truck. Otherwise, you have some great ideas there but I don't think you have to do all of them and I would do the ones that don't cost money and perhaps one or two of the security improvements. That blinking light is a really cool idea but you won't need if you have a secret fuel pump switch that will most likely stop them dead and they will be unable to steal your truck.

I live in a ghettohood not near as bad as Detroit where anything with a little value will be stolen but I just keep a stock radio, doors unlocked and leave nothing of value in the car.
Once in while you come out to a rifled thru glovebox or center console but with nothing of value in the car there is nothing missing.
I have a 03 Cobra as well, keep that safe in the garage.

Dont forget about the batmobiles anti-theft system in 1989 Batman. Just speak into the keyless remote "shields on" and the whole thing becomes completely impenetrable. tho that would be way overkill too. :-) Keep good insurance and hope for the best. It can happen to any vehicle any where... got a stolen dvd head unit and broken lock cylinder to prove it. Good luck

Park your truck in The living room. ...or move out to the garage.

Best way I've found is to work a job at $8 an hour and go to school full time. That way i don't have the funds to buy anything worth stealing (including the truck itself) so I'm able to leave my keys in the ignition and doors unlocked at all times. Has worked great so far and saves alot of time when I don't have to look for my keys or unlock my doors
