You did not understand my reply #7?
Even lift the hood and look?
Can't get any clearer than what I offered.
Code 1538 is not correct or apply.

My post was a distraction, sorry about that. I searched around the first codes that were posted and found a bunch of odd stuff. Then tried the latest "real" numbers, the 1537 and 1538, and found the odd one that I posted. But most of the P1538 references come up with the IMRC problem. Even then though, you'll find people doing strange things.

Not really clear how Bluegrass jumped ahead to IMRC before 1968Dave posted the correct codes. Sorcery.

Anyway, good luck with it. It's not an easy thing to get to. That's what my comment was really about. Be sure before you start taking things apart.

Here's the other weird video that made me nervous but got a lot of good comments. It's for a 97. Pretty sure my 2003 uses an electric motor so I'm not familiar with what this guy is doing. But the people in the comments say it works.

Here's another one. This guy crawled up in to his wheel well. Not sure if the first guy's was the main valve, so he got two codes, and the two separate codes are the actuators so this guy only got one. One code versus two probably means something..

I'll stop now.

I'm still learning about the 4.2 myself so I cause confusion sometimes. My fault.

Ford changed the IMRC system for the 1999 year. So be sure that yours is a 1998 style. Here's the two styles of solenoid from Rockauto. 1998 has the vacuum fittings, 1999 and up does not. Yours might be the easy fix that the George Dominguez video showed.

Some good news might be that running the engine with them stuck open won't hurt anything. It just makes the intake manifold design less efficient. So you can take your time trying to make a plan.

1968Dave corrected himself later, above. 1535 does not exist anymore. Maybe we have one of those phone versus computer problems? I'm on a computer. No offense intended.
