Default Help me decide on a truck!

Hey all, first time poster long time reader. Hoping to become an active member of this forum as I've Driven various Ford trucks in the past and have decided it's time for another. I'm looking at finding something in the 2001-2003 range in excellent condition with low miles - easier said then done in the rust belt where I live.

Found 2 trucks that I'm considering. The first in a 2003 4.6L XLT 4x4 Sidestep ext cab with 90k miles. The truck is absolutely mint...new tires, breaks, rebuilt rear end. It was garage stored never parked outside and not 1 spot of rust, scratch or ding...look pretty much new. Original owner - but he wants top dollar for it which is $10,000! Love the truck but this seems a little steep to me and he's not willing to negotiate..I could maybe get it for $9500 at best.

Second is my mechanics truck...I've been bugging him jokingly to sell it to me and he called me yesterday to tell me I could have it for $7000. It's 2001 4.6L 4x4 ext cab with 107k with a leer cap. Truck looks great and has been well maintained. I like that it was owned by a mechanic...body is very good apart from the rockers and few spots above the wheel wells. He has new rockers that are already painted he will throw in with the truck but a I still feel 7k is a bit high for an 01 with bit of rust regardless of how well it's maintained and don't really want to low ball my mechanic.

Sorry for the long winded post but I was trying to include as much Info as possible. Either of these trucks seem like a good buy or both overpriced? Which would you go with or should I keep looking?

Thanks, looking forward to the responses.

Nice, what truck what are the specs? When did you buy it?

I'd prob give him 10k if it was a crew cab lariat or fx4...just seems steep for an XLT ext with cloth seats but maybe I'm off base.

He knows a rust free truck up there is as rare as you do and thats why he wants so much. The cost in replacing the rockers is the actual work in replacing the rockers, not the replacement pieces so 7k is definitely steep.

Honestly, I would keep looking around but 9.5k isnt a bad deal for a truck that looks like it just rolled off the assembly line.

02 5.4 extended cab 4x4. Bone stock 90k one VA owner who was an older man. Garage kept and everything she's never let me down! There was one lifted right next to it for 6k but it has multiple owners from the rust belt and stuff. 10k isn't crazy if your getting a well cared for 10th gen that hasn't been ragged out.

2002 5.4 XLT Extended with 115k on the dial. Needed a lil work and had a little rust (Missouri truck) paid $7500 and put in another 1000!with my own labor. I would be hard pressed to sell this truck. I feel I got a decent price and I absolutely love it. It's all about the unknowns. If it's mint then 10k may not be out of the question. Biggest thing if rust bothers you is to check under it and on the back side of the body. Rust seems to start from the inside out

We sold a 2003 Heritage edition a while ago for $11,500. 5.4, 4wd, I think 92k miles on it. Just like that one, it was the utter definition of "Perfect". Zero issues, zero dents, zero paint damage. We sold it in a week.

I paid 9,500 for my 2003 F-150 Fx4 with 119,000 miles. Theres always a better deal out there but if you have the money and find a good 10th gen you like I wouldn't hesitate to pay a little more than its actually "worth". I personally wouldn't want a 4.6 but that's just me. Its all in what you want.

I paid 7600 for mine with 85k on it. One owner. 4.6 xlt supercrew 2wd. I've seen fx4 supercrew's in my area going for 13k with 113k miles. That's steep if you ask me.
