I rested the truck on it's ball joints to make things easier. I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say that! And yes, I should've!

Did you replace all the timing stuff? I need to get my motor out together. But keep putting it off as I have not found anything on the 2 valve motor. But there's videos on the three valves. Guessing there the same? I have all new gears, guides, and all. Plus even have head gaskets and head bolts that I will not be using. Or I sure Hope I don't pull the heads..

Pete there are youtube videos out there for the 2 valve. I've done kind of my own thing with what I learned. The most important thing is getting those links set up right. Two on the cam gears and one on the crank. Triple check that **** too

Yes! Ours are interference engines (almost positive). So if its off you could have just bent some valves and ruined what you just did. Always turn it over by hand (well, with a breaker bar on the crank pully bolt, 18mm) about 2 or 3 revolutions. If it binds up don't force it, the timing is prob off. Having the spark plugs out would help, but really not necessary.

And after you turn it, the marks won't line up anymore. It takes alot of revolutions for them to come back to full circle and line up again. The important thing is just checking to make sure you can turn it without binding up.
