Security vs removeability.
It all depends on what you want. A hard cover keeps everything dry and secure since it is lockable, but it limits what you can carry and is harder to remove (need 2 people to remove and need to store it somewhere). It is also stronger if you have a lot of snow buildup.
A tri-fold keeps things dry, but is easier to get into from a theft stand point, but is much easier to remove (or just fold forward) if you have taller stuff to carry. It can stand up to snow, but not as much as a hard cover.
You also have just a soft cover, not very secure, keeps things dry, easy to remove and store.
You also have cost. Fiberglass are expensive (like $1000 new), but there are a lot of used ones out there for cheaper (but may not match color wise and are used). Trifold are cheaper, starting around $250. Then the cheapest is the soft cover, starting around $120.
For me, the soft cover works fine. I just needed something to keep stuff dry when traveling. I don't leave it on the truck all the time either, so it takes up very little room in my garage when not in use.
edit: also forgot about the roll up toppers, not sure if they make them for this gen or not, but those are secure, roll up easily, but are crazy expensive and take up 6-8 inches of the bed.

It doesn't help answer the question, only a soft cover here, or a topper. Both are easy to deal with. Dislike the fiberglass with a passion. My dad had one for awhile, hated the thing plus they look horrible IMO.
I have a painted fiberglass tonneau and cant live without it. I took it off to transport my old wheels and tires and left it off for almost a month. I hated leaving anything in the bed uncovered.
If you carry large items often id go for accessability (folding) if not go with fiberglass. I see them on craigslist locally for around $200 +/-. I can have mine off in less than 1 minute.

Man, cheapest used around here are $200, and those are missing hardware, locks broken/missing, paint chipped and cracking.
For that price, I would get it and see if it works for you. If not, sell it for more than you paid and try something else.
I am with JBrew though, I don't like the look of the fiberglass ones. There is an identical truck to mine down the street (and I mean identical, 200x supercrew King Ranch chestnut brown) and the only difference is he has a color matched topper, and I don't like the look at all. I do wish I had a tan soft tonneau, but nobody makes them (only Ford had them for a few years with the KR logo on them).
