On my 97 4.6 I kinda went the cheap way and cut off the muffler then split it there and ran duals from there straight back it rumbles nice but not obnoxiously loud(but can be if you step on it lol) I think it's real nice sounding right at 2000 rpm i haven't noticed any down sides no cop problems either

How much would a set of those cost that sounds like it could be fun

Think you can find them on Amazon. You need to know size, and decide your metal. I like stainless for obvious reasons. Even have wireless systems working with wireless remotes. $200 or so for each side. If you don't have duals you just point the right side out a little from straight down. That way the drone/rumble goes outward instead of into the cab. It's for sounding bad arss instead of putt putt. If you got a good exhaust shop you can save a lot.

Unless you do the work to tune this motor to having no back pressure, it is guaranteed to lose low end powert, but probally gain a little upper high end power. My freinds newer model nissan titan lost about 50-60 horsepower when he put a straight pipe on it...

No back pressure is a myth, it all has to do with exhaust flow which comes from what size diameter pipe you have and what kind of bends in it. Ifyou have a 2.5inch straight pipe or 2.5inch straight through muffler they both flow the exact same, anything other than a straight through style muffler hinders exhaust flow and therefore performance.

The best size pipe goes as fallows
Si/so 3 inch pipe
Si/do dual 2.5inch
True dual bottom end 2.25inch
True dual top end 2.5inch

I have dual straights and an x pipe on my 2010 5.4. I haven't seen a change in performance at all. Sure does sound mean though.

Window splitting, jack hammering, sole bumping, flame throwing, pure noise is what it is. I was 19 and liked to open those drag pipes on the back country roads. It ran real good, and the 4 speed thumped em.

I assumed OP was simply cutting his muffler and replacing with 3" (stock size, could be wrong though) pipe. This large diameter pipe causes exhaust gases to flow at a slower velocity, leaving a higher amount of spent exhaust gas in the cylinder, making the combustion of the engine less efficent. Less efficency = less horsepower. Back pressure contributes to this. Yes the muffler does provide a hinderance, but it helps to keep pressure on the gases, wich causes them to flow at a higher speed, wich helps get more spent exhaust gas out of the cylinder, making a more efficent and powerful engine.

Picture this a hose without your thumb on it flows out really slow, but a hose with your finger over it making pressure provides a much faster exit of the water.

So when you think of it, a large pipe diameter with a muffler should be a better flow than the same size pipe with no muffler; however, if all the pipe were downsized, it would be about the same as a large pipe with a muffler. So unless you get small pipe (probably just as costly, if not more, to re run all the pipe to a smaller size then to simply buy a peformance muffler.) the truck will deffinately lose low end power, get some crap gas milage, and possibly burn a valve or two in the process.

Save yourself the possibilty of a ticket
Save some gas from a more efficent engine
Save other peoples ears around you
Possibly save some vavles
Get a performance muffler

Rant over haha sorry if i pissed anybody off. Not trying to offend anyone...
