Default Good idea to straight pipe?

I'm thinking about straight piping my 2003 4.6 V8. Has any body done this? Did you like the results? Are there any negative effects?
Thanks
Spencer

I personally don't like the sound of straight pipe duals.. if that's what you were planning to do..

Lots of people have done it, if you do a search on YouTube you can literally find thousands of video sound clips.

Negative affects would be a really loud drive day to day and law enforcement may give you problems because it's illegal and really loud so you are basically putting a neon sign on your truck that says, "I took off my muffler, give me a ticket".

I like how it sounds, but it's just loud all the time and obnoxious. I like to be able to hold a conversation with someone in my vehicle and not crank the stereo all the way up to drown it out. I have a dynomax VT muffler that is quiet till you romp on it and it's loud enough pulling a trailer w/ OD off doing 3k+ rpm and trying to have a conversation.

I just put a piece of pipe in place of my muffler on my 03 with the 5.4. Its not to loud unless you get on it and bring it above 2500 rpms. I've been followed by cops before and I have yet to get a ticket.

Are you sure its not because you are pushing the pedal down more to hear the sound?

Probably not. Straight pipes make these trucks lose low end torque. Low end torque is what you need to take off from stoplights and what not. So effectively. To keep the same driving style he's used to, he's got to give it a little more power to get going in the same rate of time.

You don't lose low end torque. it just moves the low end power up in the rpm range.
