Default gears grinding when in reverse

Hello all, sometimes when I put the truck in reverse , I can hear the gears grind. sometimes it's when I stop and put it in reverse. other times after shopping, when backing out of a parking spot. any ideas? also, sometimes it won't shift right away. I might have to step on the clutch twice. thanks

Do you have a manual or automatic trans? I have somewhat the same problem and I believe it is the reverse clutch going out. Recently when I put it in reverse my speedo will jump.

Pauly he did mention stepping on the clutch twice. Its a hand shaker. More than likely either your reverse synchro's are going out, or your low on tranny fluid. Consult your manual for the proper fluid type and check the fluid first. If you don't have any manual tranny experience take it to the shop.

Also check the fluid in your master cylinder.

shortly after this post the clutch went and it was towed to a nearby ford dealership. the clutch was replaced and it rarely happens.
