4wd I went with 4.56 gears with 35's. Still ok for everyday driving. Just remember you have to do the front also if you want to use 4wd.

4.88's for a 35" tire no question about it. If you jump to 4.56, you'll just wish you went to 4.88 so just make the full leap and enjoy the new found Tq multiplier. Don't worry about the MPG, since it'll get slightly better recovering from the tall tire and slow lag, stock gearing but then it'll only be slightly worse between 3.73 & 4.56. Taking it one step further with the 4.88's will give you everything you need.

Gears that put the engine in the desired RPM range.

40-50 more Hp, You're a wild man. Please list your Mods.

If that's all the extra power you're making, then all you did was move the power band higher which takes away from your low end grunt. (ah la Heads/Cams/headers) A 4.88 would be the perfect cure for your adjusted power band. Nothing less than a 4.56 no matter what though. If you had 33's or were a Sport truck I'd say 4.56's were the top of the range you should stick with but it's still a single overdrive 4 speed trans with big tires and a weak breathing 2v. Don't fear the gear.
