Default gauges fluctuating

In the past two days, when I start driving, all my gauges and speedometer will peg out, then go to zero, then go to where they are supposed to be. It will do it a few times for a couple of miles, then act normal. Any ideas?

You either have a bad ground some where or your battery is going bad. Have your battery and alternator checked out first.

Is the speedometer and tach also doing this? Is it only the gauges, how about the digital odometer? Is it on all the time or does it go out also? I ask this, because the 99-03 have solder problems in the cluster.

No tach, but all the gauges and speedo will go up to the highest reading, drop to zero and then go to where they are supposed to be. The odometer was going out prior to this happening, it would just be blank.
I wonder if I should replace the cluster?

There are numerous posts in the forum on how to repair the solder joints to fix this kind of problem. Just go to the search bar at the top of the forum post listings, and type in gauge cluster repairs, or solder repairs. It should give you reading material to keep you happy for a while. This is a very common problem with the Gen 10 with the digital odometers. Not so much with the older 97=98's, but they were analog odometers. They had odometer gears wearing out and being a problem.
