Fuel Pump Advice Needed
Hello!
I have a 2002 F-150 V6. I got into a fender bender where the airbags deployed last September, and it sat for a long time while I got replacement airbags and seatbelts.
The problem is: it wont start now.
It turns over but doen't fire - I figured this was a fuel problem.
This is what I've done:
1) Listened by the fuel inlet while my buddy turned on the ignition - no mechanical sound
2) jumpered the inertia switch in case its failed
3) Measured the voltage on the fuel pump relay - its battery voltage
4) Measured the voltage on the fuel pump power jack at the tank... it read 10.9V (lower than battery voltage).
So I think the fuel pump is getting power, but its not turning on. The obvious next step is to pull the tank and replace the fuel pump, but I'd love to get some confirmation that this is the right thing to do before I invest 5 hours in dropping the tank.
The thing that makes me nervous is that the major symptom that stopped the truck in the first place was a collision, and I don't understand how that would make my fuel pump go bad.
Thanks in advance for anyones time!!!!
