Default Fuel Filter Tool?

2003 supercrew 4.6L

Bought a fuel filter for my truck, and looked underneath it yesterday evening to see where it was positioned. I noticed one side has the usual easy to remove plastic clip, but the other side, looks like it's a metal non-removable clip. Today I took a closer look and it does seem like it's impossible to remove without some special tool.

Am I right?
Curious as to what I need to get that sucker off. Thanks!

Yea i had the same problem, you can get the tool at most autoparts places. Just ask them for a fuel filter tool for a F-150. They'll know exactly what your talking about. And just btw, when your taking it off, keep your face away from the fuel line and filter when it comes off, because you will get it in your face and mouth if you don't watch out I speak from experience

Yes there is a little key thing to pop it out.. I ran into same issue, luckily I had a buddy at a local repair shop that had one... Im not sure if they sell them auto parts store or what.. but simple answer to your question, yes they use a special tool to pop it out. But as everything else theres prolly some other way to do it, or to fab something yourself. GL!

Haha yea we do. And I thought back, i do remember us having to go to 2 different autoparts places, the first didn't have it. I can't remember which one though, we have all the big 4 as I call them here. Autozone, Advance, O'reilly and Napa. But it was either Autozone or Advance that had it, I don't shop at the other two

The ones that come from the autoparts store are just lttle plastic clips. They work fine. It will come in a pack of 5-6 clips and it goes by fuel line size not vehical application.

Wow, thanks to all for your info and suggestions. I passed by the auto store yesterday and bought a pack of the plastic clips like tleach17 mentioned. Did it in about 15 mins, super easy after you figure out what side goes where. I think I'll return the tool since I have no other use for it at the moment. I'm still wondering why Ford uses that type of fuel line instead of the plastic easy clips that come on most cars now.
