forced induction

Default forced induction

So a little rundown, i have a 1998 f-150 lariat, 4.6 liter. I have a cold air intake, no catalytic converters, a magna flow muffler that axle dumps. Under the hood i have done the PI head and cam swap off of a 2004 crown vic, with the adaptor intake manifold, so i didn't have to mess with throttle cable or anything like that. Lastly, i have the CS'2 tuner to turn down my timing and adjust transmission things.

Now that you all know my history. i am curious if it is possible to run a supercharger, preferably centrifugal. Mind you i am running compression of about 10.1 to 1 right now, i plan on doing a compression test soon to double check those numbers. Does anyone know of a kit that works of all this?

With your compression that high I would be weary about putting too much boost to it but this kit starts at 8 psi so it should be safe enough.

Yes, 10:1 is a bit high for a lot of boost. I agree, 6 to 8 psi can be done pretty safely though.

I have a question on the "cold air intake" though. What setup do you have?

its jus a round filter that was put in place of the stock air box. i then put in a heat shield to help prevent pulling hot air off the motor. According to my tuner, the air going into the motor is normally a couple degrees warmer than the outside air, unless in going slow up dirt roads or something like that.

that is the only kit i could find also. Im glad you think i could run boost at all. i thought i was going to have to do cupped pistons or something. 6 to 8 psi is about all i wanted to run just because i don't want to loose any longevity of the motor. The only other questions i have, are do you think the 4R70W transmission can handle this with some upgrades maybe? And can i adjust the blowoff of this supercharger so i don't have to do a smaller pulley? that way i don't loos out on any lower rpm boost.

Do the J-Mod (aka Jerry's Mod) to the trans, and it should hold up pretty well.... provided it's in decent shape already.

The J-Mod was designed by one of the engineer's that put the 4R70W together. Here is a GREAT resource on the ins and outs of the J-Mod, and other trans related stuff.

It must be custom tuned correct ? Otherwise the engine would fall flat on it's face...since it's catless. Even with the bump in compression, it would be a slug lol.

I think he has the Edge CS2, if I am reading the original post correctly. But yeah, not sure if it's already tuned for what it is currently.

Yea but , it sounds like a canned tune set which won't work for cat less. It'll run, but be far down on power unless it was customized for cat-less.
