Default F150 recall

I just got a recall paper from ford today about the gas tank straps rusting out causing the tank to fall and catch fire.

I got up underneath my truck and saw the tank and straps looked nearly new and wondered if the recall was bogus.

Does anybody have rust on these straps that would cause them to fail? I was wondering how many of these trucks have this problem.

I will still let ford do what they need to to "fix" the issue but dont think it is needed.(at least for me)

Mine don't look too bad either. But the way I see it, if I get it done, then it's off of my mind for the rest of the truck's life. One less thing I have to worry about.

Especially if you live in the snow belt.

Yeah, that brime salt (i think its called) eats away at the paint underneath. Thats the new thing they are using around me because it works up to 15 above 0 but it doesnt work well unless its rusting the truck out lol

Im pretty sure its real. I have seen other guys post on here about getting them replaced by ford.

About 2 years ago, my front strap rusted off while on a camping trip. I was 2 hours from cell service. Thank goodness for ratchet straps. (and that I didnt blow up, it was hanging down for hours before I noticed)

I am a technician and work at a ford dealership. The recall is really good on fords part. 1997-1998 trucks are the worst usually rust wise. Almost all of them need straps. The recall gives you two brand new e-coated straps(painted) even if yours arent rusty or rusted out. It usually takes less than 10 min to put them on.

Even though mine are good now I think Ill call the dealer tomorrow and make an appointment just to be safe. Besides that gives me an excuse to look at the new Mustangs, F150s and maybe even test drive a ecoboost! lol

Yeah I've seen 3 or 4 come in with ratchet straps on them and another 3 or 4 being held in by the skid plates, the straps were gone. I haven't done my own truck yet cause they're not that bad. I'm waiting for a week that I need the boost in hours
