Default Exhaust question

So as a surprise that I would have rather not had happen, a buddy of mine got some exhaust put on my truck. I asked and he has no idea what exhaust it is and it really isn't as loud as I want it at all. It's dual exhaust and that's all I know. So my question is would putting a new muffler on it make it louder?

Depends on what you put on it. Is the muffler he had installed a SI/DO?

I'd look into one of the Magnaflow mufflers then. They sell a pretty decent SI/DO muffler. I'd just YouTube a bunch and see what you like.

How loud do you want it? A new muffler, assuming he didn't get the least restricted muffler possible, will make it louder but you can delete cats or add long tubes to go even louder.

It made a huge difference in sound when I went from stock to a Flowmaster 10 series muffler.

Forgive me if I hijack the thread...
Is there such a thing as a semi-loud muffler to swap into the stock exhaust that doesnt drone?

sure, you can get them at all volume levels. I like Borla's products a lot. On these newer trucks, the resonator is really what prevents the cab drone (atleast that's what I've been seeing). I actually replaced my muffler with a straight pipe but kept the cats and resonator. Loud on cold start, loud when I get on it, but no drone in the cab ever
