Default Excessive Gas usage

Hello everyone,

I have a 98 f150 4.6 8 cylinder, 4x4, 250,00km. I am going to be asking alot of questions just due to alot of issues appearing.

I am going to keep it simple to start. My truck had leaking exhaust manifolds and for about a year the engine light was on and stating lean mixture. about 2 months ago the engine light went out. and about 1 month ago i replaced the manifolds. My gas mileage has been really really bad. 100km per 1/4 tank. I used to get 200km per 1/4 tank. we cleared the codes which there were none. So my question is how do i reset the mixture ratio or how do i reset the computer or does anyone else have any technical answers and solutions????

I am not looking to put on aftermarket products to get better mileage i just want my stock mileage back!!!

thanks and all the help is accepted.

WW

The lean condition for a year probably helped burn valves etc, so there's probably mechanical damage that only a rebuild will fix. You can try resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery cable, but the PCM should have adjusted a/f trims already.

how long do i disconnect the cables for?

and i am guessing on the year...engine light came on for many different reasons.

I am going to change the plugs this weekend, fuel filter and air filter.

Does the egr tube have anything to do with fuel consumption?

Do ALL the maintenance, leave the neg cable off for an hour or two while working on it.
