im jist wondering..... i have 4.2 v6 and have a friend that might sell me a 289 and i was wondering if it was possible

X2 its just dumb to do that no offense. Not only will it give you less power but it will go down in value also. Nobody wants to buy a newer style truck with a old *** motor in it. If they wanted old motor they would buy a older truck.

All I can say is, you'll most likely never get everything perfect. If you're wanting more power, work on your current motor. I know the 4.2 in these trucks had atleast as much hp as my old EFI 302 did, and probably better torque. Your best bet for a swap is a modular v8. If you did go with a pushrod v8, I'd atleast go with a 351w to make it slightly worth the trouble.
