Oh I'm not goin that route if that's the case. I was just curious. I'd just rather have a V-8 for cheaper cuz it's more power, and better gas mileage. But it sounds like its gonna cost me more money In the long run.

Nasty headaches too. You would literally have to swap your dash for a modular dash.

It's all possible, if you want to start out with just a shell, - but worth it ? Not really, unfortunately. Sucks I know.

if you want the 4.6L motor, you will need to get a truck with one in it. a 4.6 will not work in your truck. it's a totally different design

it's gettin high in miles. Truck still runs good, but I really don't want to buy a new truck when the motor finally goes,

My truck has been EXTREMELY very well taken care of.
Seems like there would be many more miles left in the engine you have. Find out what typically goes first and replace that, instead of waiting for it to blow. I don't know how the 4.2 commonly fails, maybe others do.

head gaskets in the early models were a common failure

I just put a 4.6 in a 1997 Ford Explorer Sport the information for the wiring is not the best. I used Eric Brooks at HP Tuners to have the pats removed mine runs perfect. According to the ranger guys the swap couldn’t be done so I feel you. Let me know if you need any notes on what I have.

Not sure what "Ranger Guys" told you it couldn't be done. It's not that much different than an Explorer Sport Trac, which had the 4.6 offered in it. A lot of guys opt for a SBF because it's easier to swap, but whoever told you it can't be done is pretty stupid, and not a real RBV enthusiast.
