Default engine shuts off

Hello everyone,
Hopefully someone can help me. Since a few days the engine (V8) of my 1997 F150 shuts off when the car is either running slow or stopped (for example in a traffic jam or in front of a traffic light). It keeps running when the transmission is put in park however. It also starts right up again when I turn the key. There's no warning light going on to indicate what it could be, so I wonder what could this be?
Here some things that I noticed:
- The serpentine belt makes a squeaky noise.
- I drove through a big puddle of water a few days ago.
- I removed a battery pole a few times in the last couple of days, so it was a little loose after that (but I did tighten it up when the engine started shutting off. That didn't solve anything).
I doubt that these things are trelated to my problem, but maybe I'm wrong. Who can help?

Best regards,
Bas

No codes? Also try cleaning your throttle body. IAC seem like it might cause this, since you say it's hen your idling

your service engine light will only come on if its a powertrain code, but body codes, such as a low battery voltage at module is a body code and wont trigger the service engine soon light !! it would be a good idea to have a scan tool hooked up that you can view body codes and not just p codes and see if you have any !! actual shops should have these but prob. not your local part store

Sounds like you need to catch up on your maintenance. Fuel filter, air filter, might be part of the problem. When were they last changed? If a long time ago or you don't know start there. Next I would think about new plugs.

Default problem solved

My problem is solved. I talked to the previous owner, from whom I bought the truck recently. He had the same problem once after he installed another battery. He went to a shop to see what was wrong. Seems that when the battery has been disconnected, the computer will reset itself causing the problem. It takes a few rides but than returns to normal. He was right. All of a sudden it didn't happen anymore and I've been driving again for some days without the engine shutting off.
Best regards,
Bas
