Default Engine RPM Question

Before I get started, I know that revving the engine out is not a good idea especially on a stock block. And I know that the limiter is set at a certain point from the factory for a reason. I'm asking this just for knowledge for the future.

Now my question is, will a 2v 4.6 in the f150's turn 6k rpm "safely"? If not, what needs to be done to support it? Will valve springs alone allow higher rpm's? I know I won't make any more power revving that high on stock cams and what not, I'm really just curious and thirsty for knowledge.

Thanks guys!

Default Engine RPM Question

Why would you want to rev your engine to 6k? No advantages for those engines. Just curious?

Default Engine RPM Question

Well if you must know...2 things can happen...1...you're putting unecessary wear on your engine components and it will do nothing or 2...you will blow it...simple as that.

These aren't Ferrari or Lambo engines.

Once you reach the peak RPM capable of making peak horsepower on any engine if you continue revving past that the HP drops like a rock, and so might a rod. It is totally senseless to overrev.

Default Engine RPM Question

I'm aware. I have no desire to rev it to 6k as it sits. I was wondering what it takes to make it possible. I'm building a 4.6 to swap in and want to be able to rev the new engine to 6k which I'm going to build it for, I just wondered what the bare minimum was and if these engines could support 6k when stock or close to stock.

Why do you want it to rev that high for?

If I had to guess so looking for a longer and flatter hp or torque curve from new pistons/cams to make power later in the power band.

This.

Torque*engine rpm/5,252= Horsepower

The truck is going to be a Baja truck and I want to gear for acceleration and low end, and make up for the loss of top end speed by revving it out a little more. I want as much useable power across the rpm band as possible. Looking more for top end as opposed to low end grunt. I don't tow and won't be able to when I set the suspension up for the jumps/whoops. I'm doing weight reductions whenever possible. Just wanted more available power throughout the whole range. Hope that helps lol
