Default Engine replacement checklist

My 97 extended cab finally had its major issue after 215 K, the left side head gasket is blown. Found a rebuilt motor for $2200.00, already have arranged for a shop crane and stand. I already have a partial list of parts that will not transferred from old to new motor; radiator, water pump, hoses. What about sensors, replace them all, or can some of them continue service?

That's real high for a motor. I'd never go for a rebuilt for one of these. Unless it was from Ford itself.

Other than that, a good used engine for around 1300 is the best bet overall.

I would suggest 2 stands. Makes migrating parts a LOT easier

Replace the motor and trans mounts while the engine is out. It's the easiest time to do them.

Right ^^ , - specially the trans mount. They wear out shortly after 100,000 miles. That will keep your exhaust manifold studs in on piece in the future.

What's wrong with the Radiator ? Well, depending on the package, you may have a dual core which is a keeper. My 98 has 320,000 miles on it's factory dual core. Since you give hardly no info on your truck, it's difficult figuring out what you have. IF you have the tow package or 4x4 , perhaps the off road package, it would be a good time to change the trans cooler.

Sensors, - update the 02's. But yea, with the very limited info, -hard to guide engine specific.

Sorry for lack of details, it's a 4.6 L, XLT extended cab, 2WD, no tow package, automatic transmission, Windsor. The replacement motor I will be getting is from Carolina Machine Engines and has had a complete rebuild/remanufacture done. Ward83 & Raybz Thanks for the input on the mounts and stands very helpful, those are now added to the list.

Good luck with that engine. I give yuh 50/50 odds. You may luck out. From what I've seen, - well, worst case, it may take 3 to get a good one. Good news is, I haven't heard of those guys. Well, perhaps that's good anyway.

Sorry, just seen TOO MANY remans go south.

Good Luck man.
