I know my 2002 5.4 has some vibration at idle and that is just how it is. For example if I am sitting still in drive and I have a water bottle about half full and some change in the cup holder you can hear the change rattling. Just how it is

Fuel filter has about 20,000 on it time to change? Would an idle cntrl valve do it?

Welcome to the forum. I replace my fuel filter once a year, but thats me. My 2002 4.2L has 196K and idles perfect, not even a noticeable quiver in the antenna. Is there any check engine lite activity? Normally the codes PO171 & PO174 come up before the engine roughness is felt due to the intake leaks. If someone has pulled the CEL bulb, replace it, that little lite is the best friend you can have.

Same here, I have an 03 5.4 and it idles just a little rough. However, it's done that since I've had it and nothing else seems to be wrong. I'm wondering as well if its just how it is?

When my 2000 4.6 had about 87,000 milles, the cylinder number three coil pack went bad, and caused an awful vibration at idle. Maybe that could be your problem?

I too have the 2002 4.2 V6. I had an issue with the coil pack, where one of the coils was coming through the plastic and damaging the spark plug wire. Do you have a wire that is difficult to seat properly into the coil pack? Just a thought.
