Default Engine build questions!!

Hey guys. i just wanna get some ideas here.

I have a 4.6l V8 sitting in my garage...its got about 10k miles on it. i had it in my 1998 f150 and the truck ended up going to the scrap yard. i saved the engine for my 1997 F150 that has 200k on it. I wanna build the engine up to handle 10-15psi from a Whipple supercharger. I just wanna know what all yall would think would be best to do to it.

ALSO...has anyone done a 3v or 4v swap to the 4.6l 2v? id like to do a 4v swap if its been done.

That's a good kit, but if you want 10+ PSI you're going to want ARP head studs to go with it, and I don't know what style cam comes with that kit, you want one that's designed for boosted motors..

When I was planning to do what you're talking about I was going to get these heads assembled with comp cams, and you can specify what you want to do with them in an email and they'll set you up with the right cam, and you need ARP studs with them too.

I don't know how much research you've done, but you'll need a higher flowing fuel pump and lines, 42# injectors and dynotuning to run right, and before too long you'll have to have your trans race-built to hold up.

As far as the bottom end goes you're gonna need a forged rotating assembly. Summit has Eagle street $ strip forged kits for about $1800, which isn't too bad.

i was looking at the truck flow kit a few days back. i like it alot. would you do a procharger or a whipple? i like the innercooler for the procharger...but idk, pros and cons about them?

I don't know that much about them to be honest. But I know you don't want to do a PI head swap because you don't want to raise your compression. And a lot of times when you rebuild the bottom end of a forced induction motor you drop the compression to 8-8.5:1, but the factory ratio is only like 9.2:1 so it's not that crucial if you're running 10 PSI I wouldn't think.

The m5r2 won't hold up for long. Check a local trans shop and see if they have a heavy duty or race build kit for them but I don't really think there's much out there. Your best bet is a ZF5 out of a 6.8 f-250. I think you need to modify the trans mount and possibly the shifter but the bellhousing is the same on the 4.6, 5.4 and 6.8.

For a heavy truck, I would go with a whipple blower. Its a screw type supercharger which will provide more low end torque and better throttle response. You can get air-to-water intake mounted coolers for better charge temperatures. With a procharger, you would have to rev the crap out of the thing to get any power, and that brings up issues with clutch, flywheel, trans, and drive shaft durability. Not to mention you still have to make the transfer case live behind all that if its a 4x4.\

As far as PI or non-PI heads, get PI, port them, and as you are building the bottom end, get dished pistons to set the compression ratio. PI heads are better all around IMHO.

Don't try to convert to 3v or 4v. There are huge differences between 2v, 3v, and 4v motors beyond the heads. I'm not sure the other front covers will bolt to a 2v motor or not. If you want 3v, you will probably need a motor from a newer mustang, not to mention all of the computer stuff. For a 4v, get a motor out of a navigator.
